Rent Reform White Paper – Possible Government U-turn on Section 21 Notices?

A recent tweet by a political editor of the Times has caused a commotion by claiming that the Government is backtracking on their plans to scrap ‘no fault’ evictions. Reportedly, these plans are not considered a priority and may in fact be shelved, meaning landlords could continue to use Section 21 Notices to evict their tenants. This statement or leak comes as a great surprise and, needless to say, representatives of Generation Rent and tenant support organisations are displeased and appalled.

PainSmith are monitoring the situation. This may be whispers of what is currently being discussed on the ground in the new Liz Truss Government; but nobody can believe it will happen until we receive final confirmation in the form of an announcement from Government or an amendment to the White Paper.

Government spokespersons have thus far declined to comment but have stated that “the government is committed to exploring policies that build the homes people need, deliver new jobs, support economic development and boost local economies.”

We will keep you posted.
