EICR Regulations
BS 7671 18th Edition (2022 Amendments)
An Electrical Installation Condition Report must be carried out every 5 years in accordance with the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). It is necessary that the Report is carried out in accordance with the most up to date amendments at the time the Report is completed.
The most recent Wiring Regulations at the time of this post (June 2023) are the 2022 amendments, introduced 28 March 2022. This means any Report completed after 28 March 2022 will have to be done in accordance with the 2022 amendments. This does not mean that a Report carried out before the 2022 Amendments is invalid, provided it was completed less than 5 years ago and in compliance with the relevant amendments at the time.
Amendments were made to the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations in 2020, however, these were withdrawn 27 September 2022. Again, this does not mean that Reports carried out in line with these amendments are now invalid, but instead that when the next Report is due, it must be carried out in compliance with the 2022 amendments provided they are still the most recent amendments at the time.
In short, if an EICR has been carried out before 28 March 2022, but was completed in accordance with the most recent amendments of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) at the time and the report is less than 5 years old, it is not necessary for a new Report to be carried out. It will suffice that a new Report is completed after 5 years.
